Living Fabulously Fierce Factor #8-Being Supportive

The past few weeks have been very interesting for me as it relates to the factor of support-offering help to others to positively influence and/or provide encouragement

Anyone who knows me well can tell you that I love helping people, especially when it comes to hearing about their dreams, aspirations and goals and then brainstorming to put things into action.  It truly is a high for me and if I could live off of just that, life would be even more fabulously fierce.  Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how we look at it, there really is no shortage of need for support and therefore, opportunity to help in this world.  We all need each other in some way, shape or form- we are social beings.  The challenge is moving from recognizing it to actually doing something about it.

Interestingly enough, I’ve gotten a number of requests over the past few weeks for one-on-one coaching sessions based on the Bernier Brand Building Model I’ve presented to a few groups.  Also, on the personal side, many of my friends have just been asking for help with things that I’m really excited about lending a hand or two for.  What’s been so surprising though is the “extra” gratitude offered in response to my help.  Don’t get me wrong, it is always appropriate to express appreciation for the things that others do for us.  I really do believe that and sometimes folks will get a text from me just with a “thanks just for being you.”  Simple appreciation goes a long way, and encourages others to continue to share their light, offer their support and continue making the world that much more of a better place.  The reason extra gratitude has taken me aback, more so from the strangers than friends, though is because I realize how seldom we really are taking the time to help or support one another.

One of my favorite quotes is that a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.  I can’t help but wonder if sometimes our hesitation to help is due to a fear that if we lend a hand or help someone, we will in some way limit our own progress or take away from our own success.  Ok, so let’s just have some real talk…we’re just not always nice to each other.  Sometimes it saddens me that many of us will do even worst than not help each other, we will actually put effort into putting another woman down.  SMH…yes, I went there….sidenote, maybe there ought to be an LFF segment called “LFF Real Talk”…hmmm…so many ideas, so many projects….so little time….

Ok back on track…I’ve got a challenge for us this week.  I want us each to think of just one person who will be the focus of our encouragement, reinforcement, good vibes…whatever you want to call it, it just boils down to support.  All it will require is

1-Identifying that person

2-Actually reaching out and just tell them how cool you think they are…and why (just do it)

3-Asking them to fill you in on what’s going on with them, what’s the big news of the season for them

4-Asking if there is any way you can be there for them, be supportive of whatever’s going on

5-Leaning back, and smiling as you ponder who fabulously fierce you are for taking the time to sow a seed of support that will have no choice but to grow

Leading by example, I’m reaching out to Lenore Saulsberry Fournier.  I really don’t even have the time to even begin to tell you how IN CRED I BLE she is, but we connected this week on something she’s working on and I’m all about the support factor with it….and guess what you can be to…

Lenore has applied for the Rhode Show and needs votes to be selected as the next co-host.  So here’s my support…I’m watching the video every day and asking you to do the same.

Rhode Show-Contestant Saulsberry Fournier

Watching=voting…..Vote with me!

And….yup….I’m leaning back…and I’m smiling….and looking forward to cheesing when she actually wins!!!!  Be Fabulous. Be Fierce. Be Supportive.
Let me know who you support and how it goes?!?!?
